# Search MCP

> Connect AI Agents to your Tropicalia search

## What is MCP?

The [Model Context Protocol (MCP)](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/docs/getting-started/intro) is an open standard that enables AI apps to securely connect to MCP-compatible data sources and tools. You can think of MCP like a USB-C port for AI applications - a standardized way to connect AI apps to different services.

## Search MCP

The Search MCP server provides programmatic access to your project's search capabilities, enabling AI agents to search documents and retrieve AI-generated answers.

**Base Server URL:** `https://mcp.tropicalia.dev`

## Authentication

To use the Tropicalia MCP server, you need:

* **API Key** - Your Tropicalia API key (starts with `tr_`)
* **Project ID** - Your project identifier (starts with `prj_`)

Both can be obtained from your [Tropicalia Dashboard](https://app.tropicalia.dev).

## Available Tools

1. `search` - Search documents in your Tropicalia project and get AI-powered answers.
2. `get_config` - Display current MCP configuration and available tools.

### `search`

Search documents in a Tropicalia project.

| Parameter         | Type    | Required | Description                                      |
| ----------------- | ------- | -------- | ------------------------------------------------ |

| `limit`           | number  | No       | Number of results (1-300, default: 50)           |
| `generate_answer` | boolean | No       | Generate AI answer (default: true)               |
| `expand_query`    | boolean | No       | Generate query variations (default: false)       |
| `include_sources` | boolean | No       | Include source documents (default: true)         |

### `get_config`

Display current Tropicalia MCP configuration. No parameters required.

## Wire Protocol

The Tropicalia MCP server supports Streamable HTTP:

* **URL:** `https://mcp.tropicalia.dev/{projectId}/mcp`
* Authentication is done via Bearer token in the `Authorization` header.

## Setup Instructions

### HTTP (Streamable HTTP)

For clients that support remote MCP servers (Cursor, Windsurf, N8N etc):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tropicalia": {
      "serverUrl": "https://mcp.tropicalia.dev/{projectId}/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer {apiKey}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Replace `{projectId}` with your project ID and `{apiKey}` with your API key.

### Stdio

For clients that use local processes (Claude Desktop, etc):

```json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "tropicalia": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "tropicalia-mcp"],
      "env": {
        "TROPICALIA_API_KEY": "{apiKey}",
        "TROPICALIA_PROJECT": "{projectId}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

Replace `{apiKey}` with your API key and `{projectId}` with your project ID.
